Sony Enables Cross-Platform Play For Fortnite

PlayStation players can now play with Xbox and PC players!

In a surprising announcement, Sony have finally decided to allow cross-platform play for Fortnite Battle Royale. The news comes after months of controversy from Epic Games accounts being linked with PlayStation Network accounts getting locked out of playing on other systems such as Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

The original controversy went viral across social media the day that Fortnite launched on the Nintendo Switch. Today, on September 26 – Sony allowed both PlayStation and Xbox players to finally play together after decades of competition. This is a massive historical feat for gaming worldwide, and we cannot wait to jump into the action.

Congratulations to Fortnite, on its first anniversary, for working with Sony and changing their mind on the stance towards cross-play. We may see Sony working with other titles such as Call of Duty, Rocket League and more for cross-platform gaming. This is the start of an incredible era in gaming, and we absolutely cannot wait.

Well done Epic Games, and well done gamers. We did it.

Here is Sony’s statement:

“The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.”
